Vol. 2265: The "Wursday" Edition

Post by Macho Mars on Thu Jun 01, 2017 11:00 am

Short week is really throwing off my schedule. Feels like it should be Wednesday but it's actually Thursday. Not that I'm complaining about that or anything, but it's definitely screwing with my routine.

I'm having my first real slow week in about a month. I'm enjoying it and taking it all in.

I really can't believe people. These came out yesterday via the funko shop online store. They're limited to 3000 (so not a ton but not super rare either) and people are paying through the nose to get them. The completed sales are crazy seeing how people don't even HAVE them in hand yet.

Glad I got mine from the funko shop.

With shipping about $20 or so. People are making a killing.

The Pops world is so similar to the Beanie Baby world back in the day. Hopefully that bubble doesn't burst as abruptly as the BB bubble did. Pops are way cooler though.

I think the main difference is the characters. Beanie babies were random animals and funko stuff is based on characters people like so they reach out to many different people. I'm sure one day the bubble will burst eventually (everything does to a point) but I'm hoping it goes on for a while yet.

The characters are definitely the driving point. Had Ty branched out a bit more and done more licensing they probably could have made that whole movement last a lot longer.

Looks like we get more Panini basketball cards for a few more years. I really don't have a ton of interest in basketball cards any more. Just the few that really get my attention and are chromy etc. Like that Kemp auto I got from rewards last week. Last time I've been excited about a basketball card in some time.

And it's another exclusive deal too, which is to be expected but still kinda stinks.

There's enough old stuff out there to keep me excited.  I've actually got 2 cards incoming (1 should be here tomorrow) that I'm really excited about.  The 2nd card is the more expensive one and is coming from France so it'll probably be another week or more before I have it. Think 2000, think Gold and think gem mint.

a lot of the card market is ruined for me... I just dont care about the new releases in most sports. There are only a few things I go after anymore.

And for good measure, hockey is going to get signficantly worse next year. It's a shallow draft (only the top 2 matter, and neither are McDavid/Matthews/Eichel/Laine level. Even Marner level). And for good measure, both of those guys have signed exclusive deals with Leaf while UD holds the exclusive NHL deal, so there's going to be jack and shit in all higher end releases for a solid year.

Too bad all the old stuff I want is expensive.

That's why I think I moved off to Funko stuff more. If I buy something, I know what I'm getting and the average price is probably $15. Unless you're buying the older/more higher end stuff. For the sake of mystery and pack busting I go for the mystery minis which if you do that right are worth pretty good coin.
